Step 1 – Select network

Select the wireless network for the College you are a resident at.

Step 2 – Login

You will be prompted for a username and password. This will have been sent to you in an email.  

Can I change my password?

Please send a email to helpdesk@snac.unimelb.edu.au or see the IT team on the second floor of the Academic Centre to reset your password.

Wireless coverage

All of Newman College, St Mary's College and the Academic Centre offer wireless access.

connect your computer or mobile device to the Eduroam Network

We recommended users configure their devices for eduroam before they leave their home institute. Follow the steps below to connect to eduroam at St Mary's College, Newman College and the Academic Centre.

Windows 10

  • Click the Wireless Network icon on the system tray.
  • Click eduroam.
  • Enter your email address and password then click Ok.
  • Check connect automatically.
  • Click Connect.

Windows 8

  • Navigate to the top-right corner of your screen to display the windows sidebar and click Settings.
  • Click the Wireless Network icon.
  • Click eduroam.
  • Enter your email address and password then click Ok.
  • Click Connect.

Windows 7

Devices running Windows 7 may require additional configuration settings. Please use Cloudpath Express to configures your device with the required network settings.

iOS (iPhone and iPad)

  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Tap eduroam.
  • Enter your email address and password.
  • Tap Join.
  • Tap Accept/trust certificate to get connected.

MacOS

  • Click on Wi-Fi icon on top right side on the menu bar and turn on the Wi-Fi.
  • Click on eduroam.
  • Enter your email address and password.
  • Tap Join.
  • Click Continue to verify the certificate and authenticate.

Android

  • Navigate to Apps.
  • Locate and tap Settings.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • Tap eduroam.
  • Ensure that EAP method is set to PEAP.
  • Set the Phase 2 authentication to MSCHAPV2.
  • Enter your email address in the Identity field.
  • Enter your password in the Password field.
  • Tap Connect.

Windows Phone

  • From the Home Screen swipe left.
  • Navigate and tap Settings.
  • Tap Wi-Fi.
  • If Wi-Fi is off, tap the on-off button to enable WiFi.
  • Tap eduroam.
  • Enter your email address in the Identity field.
  • Enter your password in the Password field.
  • Tap Done.
  • Tap Yes.

Linux

  • Click the Wireless Network icon at the top-right.
  • Select eduroam.
  • Enter the following settings:
  • Wi-Fi Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
  • Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
  • Tick ‘No CA certificate is required’
  • PEAP Version: Automatic
  • Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2
  • Username: email address and password.
  • Click Connect.

Connecting to Eduroam

Visiting participating institutes

Staff and students from St Mary's College, Newman College and the Academic Centre, when visiting other institutes, should use their Academic Centre email address (eg jsmith@snac.edu.au) and password to connect to the institute's wireless network.

Visiting St Mary’s College, Newman College and the Academic Centre

Visitors from participating eduroam institutes TO St Mary's College, Newman College and the Academic Centre should use the login credentials and settings provided by their home institute.

The service is provided with network address translation, we do not allow P2P, torrenting or TOR access. You may use VPNs.

All visitors access is throttled at 512kbps synchronous.

Support

If you have questions or difficulty connecting to the wireless network please contact one of the following resources:

  • Residents can speak to a Student IT representative or College reception.
  • Staff can call the IT team, Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, excluding University holidays.
  • Visitors should contact their home institute for support for the eduroam network or speak to College reception.

Certificate

When you first join the network you are prompted to accept our certificate. To verify that you are connecting to the correct network the certificate issuer is Sectigo Limited, located in Salford, Greater Manchester, Great Britain. The common name of the certificate is eduroam.snac.edu.au and the organisational unit is Comodo SSL.

Conditions of Use

  • You will adhere to all St Mary's College, Newman College and Academic Centre policies and guidelines including the Acceptable Usage Policy.
  • You will not infringe copyright, including but not limited to downloading copyright material via peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing.
  • You will not apply an unreasonable burden on the network.
  • You will not allow any other person to use your account(s).
  • You will use up-to-date antivirus software and regularly apply updates to your operating system and applications.
  • St Mary's College, Newman College and the Academic Centre is not liable for loss, damage or consequential loss or damage arising directly or indirectly from use of the wireless network and associated software.
